For sheriff\u2019s departments across the country, responding quickly to natural disasters and keeping citizens safe are paramount. However, these scenarios often put deputies and staff on the front lines of service in order to protect the community. Understandably so, the technology they use needs to enable anywhere, anytime collaboration so deputies can respond and mitigate threats at a moment\u2019s notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of these crucial elements, the San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department<\/a>, the largest county sheriff department in the U.S., is the latest state and local government organization to migrate to Microsoft Office 365. It is currently in the process of deploying 3,000 seats of the cloud solution across 60 county locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The county stretches across 20,105 square miles and is larger than the combined area of New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island. With diverse terrain and more than 2.1 million residents, the sheriff\u2019s department needs to respond quickly to a number of natural disasters like wildfires, floods and earthquakes. Office 365 is helping them ensure that when there is an emergency, employees still have access to valuable IT resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last 18 months, we have seen increased momentum in state and local governments, like San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department, moving to the cloud, and specifically to Microsoft Office 365.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is because the solution provides an always up-to-date, unified platform that improves collaboration and productivity among staff, while ensuring compliance to key federal and state security and privacy policy requirements. These elements are essential for public safety organizations to protect the public better and more quickly respond to citizen needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also contributing to the department\u2019s transition is Microsoft\u2019s commitment to addressing the privacy and security requirements of the FBI\u2019s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS). Because Office 365 meets these important compliance standards and regulations, the department can trust that its data is secure, and focus its efforts on protecting and serving the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the department\u2019s law enforcement officers and support staff have been able to collaborate more easily, helping them investigate crimes and complete administrative tasks more efficiently \u2013 from the office and in the field. The department has also realized substantial cost savings as result of merging its work streams onto a consolidated platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
