For infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) workloads, customers can implement <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/storage\/common\/customer-managed-keys-configure-existing-account?tabs=azure-portal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">customer managed key (CMK) encryption<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/products\/key-vault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure Key Vault<\/a>, a generally available and widely adopted option used today by many security-focused customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to this new Azure option, <strong>Microsoft will continue its long-standing commitment to protecting Criminal Justice Information in <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/azure-government\/documentation-government-welcome\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Azure Government<\/strong><\/a>, which United States criminal justice agencies have used since 2014. A fundamental principle for using the cloud is an understanding of the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/security\/fundamentals\/shared-responsibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared responsibility model<\/a>.\u00a0An organization that manages a completely on-premises computing infrastructure has full responsibility for its security and compliance.\u00a0Organizations leveraging cloud services share this responsibility with their cloud provider but are still accountable to the appropriate regulators.
