This is proved by a path-counting argument in a dual model. When <em>d<\/em> = 3, this permits an improved lower bound on the critical point p<sub>e<\/sub> of entanglement percolation, namely p<sub>e<\/sub> \u2265 \u00b5<sup>\u22122<\/sup> where \u00b5 is the connective constant for self-avoiding walks on Z<sup>3<\/sup> .
