Announcing Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1
Today, Microsoft is announcing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Detailed information regarding SP1 will be released over the next several months; but today Windows Server 2008 R2 is announcing that SP1 will deliver two important new features that directly affect Microsoft’s desktop virtualization stack: Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX.

Thanks much to the Microsoft Learning and MS Press folks for such a fantastic giveaway. I remember getting the pre-cursor for this book, Introducing Microsoft Windows Server 2008, before I joined Microsoft and it was a huge help in getting grounded with the then-new OS.
Hyper-V certificate expiration and resolution
For those of you who’ve enabled the Hyper-V role in WS08. It has been determined that a certificate error can occur resulting in the inability to start or connect to virtual machines running on Windows Server 2008 or Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008.

As I write this,  I’m in the room where it all happens – in building 26, better known as the ship room. Ten minutes ago Windows Server 2008 officially RTM’d. Also in here with me are my colleagues who have been working on Windows Vista SP1, also RTM’ing today.
From Citrix iForum: Hypercall API open season
We announced today that the hypercall API, which hypervisor and OS vendors will use to build on top/integrate with Viridian, will be licensed via the Open Specification Promise (OSP). You’ll recall that the Microsoft’s VHD image format is available via OSP. This license will be available at the time of Viridian RTM.

New management tool for Virtual Server and Viridian
You’ll be interested to read Chris’ post about the release of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007. This first version is for managing VMs and apps within Virtual Server 2005. The next version of SCVMM will manage VMs and apps running within Viridian/Windows Server 2008.
